This paper discusses reforestation. Reforestation can certainly be argued over, but almost everyone will concur with one idea: More forests equal a better environment for us all. Only it doesn't stop there; there are too many considerations, too many variables to take into consideration. Thus, we are brought back to the original question: Does the world really need more forests? America's richly, diverse forests provide vital products and amenities to our society. "Through scientific management, sustained production of pulpwood, saw timber, veneer, poles, and chemical by-products is possible from our forests." (Gallegos, 1982) Our nations forests provide important values to us including: quality habitat for wildlife, biodiversity of plant and animal communities, clean water, aesthetic benefits and recreational opportunities.

297 The Thin Red Line A Novel by James Jones.
This is a book report of James Jones's "The Thin Red Line." This book is not about men at war as much as it is about war in men. It is about war alright...a war with fear for some, with jealousy for another, a war with death for another, war with faith for yet another. Every one of those C-for-Charlie company has a war...not only with the unseen Japs and their deadly hidden machine guns...but also with themselves. In order to win the war with the outside enemy, they have to win a war with the inside enemy, the humanity in them, and they must lose the war against the animal in them... The story has its share of tactics and warfare...but its main concern is with the men at this war...and the war in these men. To say that this book is outstanding is an understatement.

848 Reducing Stress In Dogs.
Stress can be triggered in a dog by change in environment or the need to react concerning a change in the environment. It may be the chronic lack of certainty concerning its daily routine. It does not need to be dire or life threatening to create stress. Pets are sensitive to their surroundings and form emotional bonding with their owners as well as other family pets (Symptoms 1). Any "change" can create stress in a dog. Bites from another animal, broken bones, travel, breeding, showing, or accustomed affection can cause stress in a beloved pet. Stress is a signal for the dog's internal system to react and may cause rapid heartbeat and increased breathing. Any health problem may cause stress in a dog. This is true whether the health change is in the dog's health or the owner's. The animal may show stress by anxiety, fear, or restlessness. The dog may seem to be listless or act withdrawn. Life is filled with inconsistency for humans; it is likely that a dog will experience stress sometime. Constant stress can lower a dog's immune system or cause behavior problems.

1980 Primates in Biomedical Research.
There are a number of ethical questions regarding the use of animals for biomedical research and particularly the use of the primates who are closest to humans genetically and who have been shown to have capacity for language and reason. Even if it is determined that humans have the right to use animals to further their own purposes then the question arises as to when and for what reason is the suffering or death of an animal justified. Also there is great debate on the validity of research that rests on the premise that primates such as chimps are close enough to humans to give accurate information. As new methods such as computer modeling and cell and tissue cultures are developed, they are showing higher levels of accuracy for some tests. These are only a few of the many questions facing anyone who is considering a stand on the issue of using primates or other animals in biomedical research. 8 pgs. 14 f/c. 12b.

2754 Animal Farm and The Power and the Glory.
This paper discusses how Both of these great works are reflections of the human situation. Orwell's satire leaves us contemplating the question of power, and how power us abused. And yet, while we see how power can be abused in the name of equality, we see that power can be abused in all cases. Napoleon in "Animal Farm," has clearly abused his power. He has begun with good intentions, or with the articulation of good intentions, and yet he ends up using power for his own interests. The same with the lieutenant in the "Power and the Glory." We see how he ends up being a despot, and that his persecution and chase of the priest is, just like Napolean's behaviour, the reflection of a totalitarian and corrupted mind. 6 pgs. 1 f/c. 2b.
