This paper discusses the meaning of order in relation to architecture. This paper also looks at order in ancient art and the meaning and perception of order. Architecture is a reflection of the combination of spiritual and mortal associations with the physical environment. For this we look at order, we see the order of things is positively influenced by environment and time. In many instances, order is apprehended first of all by the senses. The observer perceives an organized structure in the shapes and colors or sounds facing him. In ancient times, temples housed images of the gods and were decorated with sculpture and paintings. Painting also flourished on vases, which were important articles of trade. Sculpture, inspired by the monumental stone sculpture of Egypt and Mesopotamia, the Greeks began to carve in stone. Freestanding figures share the solidity and frontal stance characteristic of Eastern models, but their forms are more dynamic than those of Egyptian sculpture, as for example the Lady of Auxerre and Torso of Hera.

236 Metal Casting: Yesterday and Today.
Metal casting is a diverse industry. Different metals are cast by many different processes, for many different applications. One of the earliest metal working methods, metal casting has been used for centuries people all over the world. Cast metal products and processes offer advantages unavailable from products made by other metal forming and fabricating techniques. The industry's future is based upon these advantages. Prehistoric casting was completed by carving an impression of the implement into the flat surface of a large stone. A groove was cut from the edge of the stone to the carved form, serving as a sprue, or vent. Another flat stone was placed on top forming a container, and the molten bronze or copper was poured in through the sprue. Lost wax casting, also known as circ perdue was possibly used as early as 5000 BC in India. Many civilizations seem to have developed the same basic methods from the Greeks and Romans, to the Egyptians and Chinese. With the Industrial Revolution came improvements in materials and methods, which improved the certainty of a successful casting.

1652 Cultural Relativism: Where Reason Fails Our Hearts.
Relativism, when considered from a theoretical perspective, may seem to be valid, we can at least say that in practice the common man almost always assumes that it is invalid, acting on the premise that there are, indeed, universal standards that must be upheld. We always seem to believe in our hearts that there are things that are simply 'right', that there are standards written in some kind of ontological stone beyond human creation. This paper identifies that for this reason, relativism faces a serious practical challenge whenever someone attempts to apply it in the world. Simply put, the practice may hold up theoretically, but it radically fails to meet the standards in our hearts, our instinctual awareness of the 'right' path, which insists that a strict relativism cannot possible be true. 3 pgs. 0 f/c. 0b.

3720 Hagar and Jason Currie's Ideological Positions in "The Stone Angel".
This paper analyses Hagar and Jason Currie's ideological positions in "The Stone Angel". Using Patricia Marchak's work, the paper argues that Hagar and Jason both very much represent capitalist and individualist values. Jason is a firm believer in the puritan work ethic, holding that people must simply work hard and take individual responsibility for their own lives. Hagar also represents a strong individualistic ethic, for she refuses to depend on anyone but herself in her confrontation with old age and death. 5 pgs. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

3771 Expanding NAFTA to Argentina: A Case of Wise Economics?
Looking at the question of whether or not it is wise to admit Argentina into NAFTA, then, depends largely on what side of the coin one likes to look at. On an economic basis, there is some compelling logic that makes such a deal attractive. On a practical level, however, there are problems with the implementation of the NAFTA agreement. Bringing more countries into the foray simply adds more chefs to an already crowded kitchen. In the end, the proper course of action largely depends on the ultimate objectives of the agreement. If NAFTA is a stepping stone to increased multilateral trade consistent with the provisions of the WTO, then we should applaud the entry of Argentina into the mix. If, however, NAFTA is a move towards increased regionalization at the expense of broad multilateral trade, then it should be dissuaded. 7 pgs. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
