This paper defines the domino theory and its meaning in the context of relations between China and the United States. This paper will also note the relationship between the Soviet Union and China and how other countries were affected. The assumption of Eisenhower and his administration that Communism would spread like a bad virus was a false one. Not only was their ample evidence during the actual fighting of the Vietnam War that this was not the case, but from declassified papers and notes it can be shown that the domino theory was notably inaccurate.

199 Equiano's Travels: A Summary of the Story.
This is a summary of Equiano's Travels. His tales recount his observations in his homeland and he notes some of the cultural and social events he encounters during his travels. He tells of the justice system in his homeland, which he thought to be fair - law of retaliation. He also notes the double standards present; husbands can have as many wives as they want, but the woman is allowed only one husband, and adultery was punishable by death. He makes note of things like these and continues to note other issues surrounding marriage and kinship relations. He seems to have a great interest in human nature and how relationships are carried out with one another.

246 Organic Failure To Thrive.
This paper discusses the problem of organ failure to thrive in children. Between 1% and 5% of all hospital-admitted children aged two and under are afflicted with failure to thrive. The problem is found in up to 10% of this age group's general population (Leung, et al., p.1432). Characterized by growth and/or development failure, failure to thrive is a symptom, which may be of organic or non-organic origin. The term, failure to thrive, is most commonly associated with infants aged two and under who have not met weight gain criteria as defined by standard measures. More severe cases may be identified by linear and head circumference growth that falls well below the norm. It is important to note that while this paper discusses organic-based failure to thrive, non-organic problems must also be considered in any diagnosis or treatment of failure to thrive.

276 The Vanity of Human Wishes and the Tenth Satire: A Comparison.
This paper examines and compares two poems: The Vanity of Human Wishes and the Tenth Satire. This paper will compare these two poems and note the similarities and messages they both contain. The Vanity of Human Wishes and the Tenth Satire are great works of poetry, in comparison they are also very similar, which is the subject of the present essay. The poems are structured into a number of sections. The Vanity of Human Wishes essentially illustrates how many of the traditional aspirations of man - wealth, political power, learning, military glory, long life, and beauty - are, when the mechanism of attaining these ends is deconstructed, ultimately 'empty' goals. Johnson ends the poem advocating instead love, patience, and faith: 'these goods for man the laws of heaven ordain' . The underlying assumption for Johnson is that people have the same nature, and that whoever thinks rationally must also think morally; the poem has a strong moral tone to it.

298 Things Fall Apart.
This paper reviews the book, Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. This paper will look at religion as well as the issue of socialism in the book. This paper will also note some of the author's parallels in society today. Masking as Achebe portrayed in Things Fall Apart supported traditional perceptions of the relationship between society and the sacred; therefore, the implementation of masking as obscured by colonialism presented a unique opportunity for Europeans to reconfigure established perceptions of reality. In traditional Igbo society, it was the role of the artist to affirm a sense of "the sacred" within the community.

1991 Lord Byron, and The Dreamer's Dream.
This paper discusses romantic literature as it pertains to Lord Byron and his life. Generally, European poetry from the Romantic period is characterized by the following poetic features: a belief in the innate goodness of human nature; individualism; a reverence for nature and primitivism; philosophical idealism; a (somewhat paradoxical) preference for free thought and religious mysticism; rebellious with political authority and social customs (and note the class bias, of course); a celebration of physical, sensual passions; the active cultivation of emotion, and sensitivity, as values in-themselves. Romantics tended to believe that to be human meant being an emotional, sensitive, and rational person. 11 pgs. 24 f/c. 8b.
