The focus of this paper is the sports hero in the American Culture. The days of Americans worshipping athletes like "Joltin' Joe" DiMaggio, and "Broadway" Joe Namath appear to be over, right? Well, not quite. Attendance numbers, television ratings and merchandise sales are at an all-time high in the sports industry. Fantasy sports leagues and home video games in which fans can manage or even be their favorite players are wildly popular with fans of all ages. And perhaps the most upsetting indication that hero worship is alive and well, is the fact that increasing numbers of young athletes are bypassing college in order to achieve their dream of playing professional sports. In turn, sports heroes themselves are getting younger and younger. In the following pages, I will discuss these disturbing trends more closely, by tracing their roots, examining the present state of affairs, and predicting the future of the sports hero.

418 Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman.
This paper discusses Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman. In Death of a Salesman, Miller describes Loman's house as being a "...small, fragile-seeming home", and that, "An air of the dream clings to the place, a dream rising out of reality". The "dream", being the American dream of success, wealth and security. The "dream", also represents Willy's fading dreams of a better life, and regretful past. He lives in a fantasy world where the future is still wide open, although his time has passed him by. Miller recommends the design of the setting to be, "wholly, or, in some places, partially transparent", with a one-dimensional roofline.

612 Science Fiction Films.
This paper discusses Science Fiction as a sub-genre of fantasy films. Stylistically, some characteristics of science-fiction films are the presence of brave heroes, distant planets, impossible or improbable settings, fantastic places, dark and shadowy villains, futuristic technology, and aliens or "creatures" from outer space. Science-fiction films are prophetic by nature and are often set in the future, which is represented by imaginative visualizations of what the future might be like.

3175 Mishandling of the O.J. Simpson Police Investigation.
In June 1994, football legend O.J. Simpson was charged with the double murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and her acquaintance, Ron Goldman. Despite vast amounts of evidence linking Simpson to the crime scene he was ultimately acquitted, at least in part because of police negligence in handling the investigation. This paper traces the events surrounding the murders and subsequent investigation to show how the LAPD failed to provide key evidence and allowed doubts to arise over the credibility of physical evidence it had gathered. 7 pgs. 5 f/c. 5b.

3301 Saint-Exupery's "The Little Prince" as an Example of Children's Fantasy Fiction.
This paper will argue - through an analysis of "The Little Prince" - that fantasy fiction is a vital component of a child's growth toward healthy psychological maturity. It will be seen that Saint-Exupery fulfils this mandate in his work primarily because he never "talks down" to children. The fact that a children's fantasy narrative reflects upon a range of intellectually complex issues - from greed and madness to love and death - while maintaining its appeal for a younger audience attests to its usefulness as an educational tool in the process of children's growth. 4 pgs. 3 f/c. 3b.
