This paper discusses one of the greatest doctors of the Catholic Church, St. Thomas Aquinas. He says that evil is not an essence, form or substance, which goodness possesses. Rather it is the absence of that goodness, or the "privation of good (Aquinas). God creates a created thing or creature for a purpose and that purpose is necessarily good, because God created it, and that creature's nature is directed at that purpose, which is good. When the creature, by his or her own free will, decides not to opt for that purpose - directly or indirectly - he or she violates his or her own nature, which is aimed or directed towards his or her own good, and therefore, commits evil. It is through the vehicle of the human will, which is free, that evil occurs. But evil has no purpose or substance of its own, because and therefore God did not create it. Neither does He allow it. It exists only because the human will, which is free, opts for it.

69 Jonathan Edwards.
This paper is a biography of Jonathan Edwards. Early 20th-century scholars and thinkers, like Vernong Parrington, looked down on Edwards as the "Great Anachronism" of his time, still acknowledged him for his "prodigious intellect and promise." In the middle of the century, the great neo-orthodox theological H. Richard Niebuhr pointed to Edwards as a great help to the world's need to understand the calamities of World War II and in recovering its moral bearing. And Perry Miller declared that Edwards was, in fact, a true "modern" - so modern that the present age needs to catch up with him.

89 Suicide and Adolescents.
This is paper discusses the problem of suicide and teenagers. In Dr. David Lester's book, "The Cruelest Death: the Enigma of Adolescent Suicide" he goes into detail the serious problems leading to teenage suicide. He presents alarming findings of fact about the third leading cause of death in the USA among those below 24 -- suicide. It points to the recent and dramatic rise in the incidence of the last 20 years as suggestive of an epidemic (Lester 1993) that warrants greater attention and sobriety among those who can and should do something about it. It is a frank inquest into the social phenomenon by providing information support to theory, research, management and intervention helpful to professionals - particularly clinicians, crisis workers and parents -- and the entire family with greater insights that can help them device more effective, responsive and successful strategies in the clinic, school and at home, all with the end-view of reversing the trend.

104 Democracy In China.
The focus of this paper is democracy in China. The democratization of Communist China is neither likely nor feasible. Not in the foreseeable future. It was a brilliant and promising move when former President Richard Nixon first established ties with Communist China in 1972 as "one dictatorial power playing over another dictatorial power" (Boycott China 2002) as a face-saving act during the Vietnam War fiasco and at a time that Russia was on the offensive. During the Reagan administration, China began evolving into a freer and more open society, hinting at an evolving democracy. The American people had hoped to help build that democratic society and thought it would happen then. Today, President Bush's government wants to establish a free trade agreement with China so that it will be more dependent on us and become freer, more prosperous and more peaceful.

106 Gone With The Wind.
This paper discusses the novel Gone with the Wind. Houghton Mifflin had scheduled the publication of Alice Randall's story, entitled "The Wind Done Gone," in June last year when the lawyers of Margaret Mitchell's estate - represented by Sun Trust Bank -- sought for and obtained a preliminary injunction in April, stopping its publication (Associated Press 2001). Margaret Mitchell was the author of the classic novel and very famous movie, "Gone with the Wind," in 1939 and Alice Randall wrote "The Wind Done Gone" in 2001. The estate's lawyers held that Randall violated the Copyright Law by plagiarizing Mitchell's novel and that it was not simply a case of free speech, as claimed by Randall.

134 Freud's Anal Retentive Theory.
This paper looks at Freud's theory concerning anal retentiveness and how it relates to the behavior of my sister, Jennifer. This paper will look at his theory and how it help for understanding the behavior of people who exhibit the characteristic of being anal-retentive. According to psychodynamic theory, most of our personality lies below the surface somewhere in the subconscious, with only a small portion being located in our conscious awareness. Theoretically, our subconscious is made up of id, ego, and super-ego. The paper explains how each of these work. The paper explains the problems that Jennifer has related to anal retentiveness. Jennifer is clearly fixated on these small things that she feels she must have control over, such as who sits where at the dinner table or making sure everything is always in its place. These defense mechanisms are put up by the ego when the anxiety caused by the conflicting pressures of the id and reality become overbearing. The ego then tries to ease this tension in a less threatening way or by getting rid of it completely by ignoring the id's desire, by repressing it.
