This paper is written about drama and Hamlet's Character. William Hazlitt largely comments on the contemporariness and universality of Hamlet's character: that although Shakespeare wrote the play more than 500 years ago, we have come to know the character of the tragic Prince quite well. Not only because we read about him in school, but also - and more - because we know his thoughts as we do our own. (Hazlitt 1900) His sayings and speeches are not only real but are as real as our own thoughts when we ponder and despair over our or others' misfortunes and grief. Each of us becomes Hamlet, in Hazlitt's view, whenever we bear the weight of reflection (Hazlitt), when the sun in us is made dim by "envious mists" in our hearts, whenever the world looks nothing better than a "dull blank", when our love is despised, or when sadness sticks to us and makes our mind sink within.

98 The Wealth And Poverty Of Nations.
This paper discusses the book The Wealth and Poverty of Nations. While Harvard Professor of History and Economics David S. Landes states in his book that that no has the simple answer as to why some nations are very rich and some are very poor today, he nevertheless argues that the West has been way ahead of the East in progress and success. He categorically points to England as the first country in world history to develop and this happened in the 18th century. Because of this, he writes that Europe (or England) shows how a nation can succeed. The book is a direct negation of the concept of multiculturalism in declaring that even the Chinese and Islamic civilizations' great scientific and technological advancements could not continue to progress as Europe has. He attests to a European miracle in earlier centuries.

127 Ethnic Identity.
This paper discusses the importance of ethnic identity. One quite visible phenomenon has been occurring in the United States since the 1960s that has challenged the minds of sociologists, other thinkers and observers. Waves of immigrants and their descendants, 60 million as of recent count, have entered and settled in the Continent from practically every country in the world (Jacoby 2003). What is startling is that they now constitute a fifth of the entire population, assuming a whole range of occupations and all socioeconomic levels - businessmen and women to unskilled laborers, night or day, in every region of this county. Nothing says how their sheer number can or will bring about any kind of transformation, positive or negative, but everyone is watching, wide-eyed.

132 America's Melting Pot.
This paper is on America as a melting pot due to the assimilation of immigrants in America. Today, huge numbers of Americans are of mixed cultures. Many do not fit the limiting categories of race such as White, Black or Negro, American Indian or Alaskan Native, and Asian or Pacific Islander -- outlined in Statistical Directive 15, which was adopted in 1978 by the Office of Management and Budget and used in the 1990 U.S. Census of the Population. A rising number of Americans are "Multiracial-Americans." This making the term "melting pot" even more appropriate. The people of this country are most of a mixture of several different cultures; the backgrounds of our citizens cannot be reduced to one label or another. To be "American" now means a "melting" of several different ethnic categories.

205 Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton.
This paper is a reflective essay on Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton. This paper looks at the plight of the heartbroken fathers in this novel and how through pain and heartache, they eventually came to fight a battle through life together. This paper will illustrate this point through character analysis. The book "Cry, the Beloved Country" by Alan Paton is a book about agitation and turmoil of both whites and blacks over the white segregation policy called apartheid. The book describes how understanding between whites and blacks can end mutual fear and aggression, and bring reform and hope to a small community of Ndotcheni as well as to South Africa as a whole. The language of the book from the very beginning reveals its biblical nature.

238 Discrimination in the Modern Workplace.
This paper discusses discrimination in the modern workplace. With the 21st century workplace ahead of us and a country full of diversity surrounding us, the changing ethnic, racial, age, and gender composition of the workforce will become more evident in the years to come. This modern workplace will bring in a group of diverse employees to accompany tighter labor markets and changing worker demographics. These changes in the modern workplace will have important implications for employers across the country. "High skills and knowledge are important to American firms competing in a global economy." (Dresser, 1996) As always, the best measure of a employee or potential employee is skills and knowledge. But we all know that it doesn't always work that way. And, while the U.S. workforce as a whole has a higher educational level than ever, some problems evolving in the modern workplace are clear; discrimination is part of the problem. All the greater knowledge and skills level the United States is welcoming is coming to employers in new packages.

255 Police Brutality: More than Just A Few Bad Apples.
The existence of police brutality is far worse than just a few key incidents. Statistics throughout the country illustrate this problem is only getting worse. This paper attempts to uncover the problems behind the problems of police brutality and what can be done to fight against it. Most people are aware of the recent increase in police brutality and murder either from personal experience or from those cases that make the news. These cases are reported by the media as individual incidents and are explained as the actions of "a few bad cops." But this analysis fails to notice the nation-wide increase in police brutality and the fact that very few cops are actually prosecuted for their crimes. This increase in police violence is a part of a toughened criminal justice system, which includes the war on drugs, the building of new prisons, the gutting of federal habeas corpus rights, the move toward quicker executions and the criminalization of a generation of people of color.
