This paper addresses the importance of the woman's role in World War II. The image of the "little woman" took a direct hit in World War II. Whether braving the bombs and rationing on the home front, or serving as nurses, pilots, Congresswomen, auxiliary personnel or myriad other positions, women were vital to the war effort in ways they had never been before. The fight for equal wages, and equal rights with men, which is still going on today, began in many ways during the Second World War. 8 pgs. 15 f/c. 8b.

16 Little Women.
This is a book report on Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. It is a biographical account of her family. In the book, her father Amos Bronson is Mr. March and her mother Abigail May is Marmee, while her older sister Anna is Meg and younger sisters Lizzie and May are Beth and Amy, respectively. And Louisa May is the lead character, Josephine or Jo March, the second daughter. The novel, published in 1868-1869, made Alcott a major author of her era. Alcott's portrayal of 19th-century domestic life is outdated, but she will always be remembered for her courageous and realistic expression of the maturing adolescent. Her "Little Women" significantly infused sensitive portrayals of this kind into the ordinary and formal types of juvenile literature offered in her time.

36 Improved Education for Women.
This paper discusses the need for improved education for women. More and more women desired to be formally educated by the end of the 19th century. This led to the establishment of more and more colleges for women and the admission of women students. Comparatively, only 1/5 of resident college and university students were women in 1870, but this grew to 1/3 in 1900. By the start of the 20th century, women acquired 19% of all college degrees. In 1984, this figure rose to 49%, in the undergraduate and graduate levels (Compton's) - 49% in the master's level and 33% in the doctorate level. And in 1985, roughly 53% of all college students were women, a quarter of whom were over 29 years old. The struggle of a woman to achieve equal status with the man in education has been staggering and the price has been very high. Although notable victories have been made and significantly influenced the course of history and education, progress has remained slow and low, as the bias towards man continues to obstruct a woman's efforts towards equality. She can only endure and persist in the fight.

65 Questions And Answers.
This paper answers three questions. Question one addresses Ferry's theory of civilization and his belief that there are inferior races, and he suggests that the superior races have a duty to make it all fit. The second question addresses the question on what is the Third Estate. The Third Estate is the work that sustains a society. The Third Estate is needed to complete a nation. The Third Estate is a little bit of everything, It's the land and the water; it's the people living under the common law of the nation; it's the hard work and labor that goes into maintaining the land; it's the laws of the countryside; it's the merchants that sell goods. The Third Estate is ominous; it's necessary to a nation. The third question is to pretend that you are Spencer. This is the part of the program that is most striking to me. The diffusion of education is at the heart of this matter. The hard-worked and overburdened are the most educated; while the under-utilized person who wants to be educated and wants to work is not being used at all.

70 Profile: Claire Jopling, Health Systems Manager.
This paper is a profile of Claire Jopling, Health Systems Manager. "I sell (negotiate contracts and present clinical information) pharmaceuticals to large hospital systems including Department of Defense hospitals, teaching institution hospitals (medical schools and their affiliated hospitals), the VA hospitals, and I train and assist the local field reps in selling pharmaceuticals to the community hospitals," This profile explains the tasks that Claire does as a Health System Manager. "The pharmaceutical industry has proven over several decades to be a very profitable industry to be involved in." She continued. With a little more thought, Claire and I agreed that many companies spend millions of dollars a year on research alone. With many new discoveries presently being made in biotechnology, hypertension, mental illness, cancer, cardiology and AIDS research, many new products are continuously being developed. All of which are creating new employment opportunities. This paper is descriptive and thorough in giving the details of Claire's job and her reactions during the interview.

83 The Awakening By Kate Chopin.
This paper discusses The Awakening by Kate Chopin. The issue of woman's emancipation from her subjection to man derives from her gender role, but it has been more than just a gender issue. Advocates of the feminist movement the world over and at all times have strongly and persistently called attention to the recognition of all the rights of woman as a human being in all aspects of humanity and in all the ways a man's humanity are recognized and revered. A few of the major aspects are frankly brought out in The Awakening by Kate Chopin in a most unusually courageous and precise manner because the novel was written two centuries ago when women did not have the "right" to object, much less act the way Edna Pontellier does or think and write the way Kate Chopin did.

142 Astrology.
This paper discusses astronomy or what we call astrology. First, most opinions are based on the worst aspects of astrology, namely the columns found in newspapers. Astronomers are also victims of this; for the tabloids misrepresent scientific astronomy in stories such as "Hubble sees Heaven", and we certainly hope that the public does not take this level of reporting as representing the real work of astronomers. There are many statements from leading astrologers that discredit tabloid astrology. Second, most of the debunkers have little or no knowledge of astrology, they just know that there are no known mechanisms that can account for a celestial influence of this type. The considerable development of astronomy in the 1600s gave further credence to mechanical model of the universe & made implausible the older anthropocentric ideas. However, Robert Boyle was a supporter of astrology who wrote that it could be a counterpart to an atheistic mechanical cosmos. Hunter closes his essay by noting that scientists had little influence at this time.
