This paper discusses the history of International Business Machines (IBM). International Business Machines (IBM) began long before computers were introduced. It was established in 1890 during the Industrial Revolution as the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company, which produced punched card data processing equipment (Scripophily.net 1999; The IBM Songbook 2003). There were huge waves of immigration at the time and the US Census Bureau found its traditional methods of population count inadequate, so it conducted a contest for the solution of the problem. A German immigrant and census statistician, Herman Hollerith, won. Hollerith developed a punch card tabulating machine, which used electric current to sense holes on punch cards and to keep a running total of data. Motivated by his success, Hollerith established the Tabulating Machine Company in 1896 (Scripophily).

Inflation in essence implies "too much money chasing too few goods". Inflation is a condition of continuously increase in the price level. It affects individuals, businesses & the government. Inflation has been generally regarded as an important problem to be solved and a primary concern for the policymakers. Two types of changes can be caused by inflation. First, there may be a temporary burst of inflation as the general price level changes from one equilibrium level to another. Secondly, there may be a continuos change in the level of prices. Inflation that is caused by shifts in aggregate demand must be distinguished from inflation that is caused by shifts in aggregate supply.

817 Psychopharmacology of Drug Effects
Psychopharmacology is the study of the effects of drugs on behavior. Concerning the past, chemical substances which change behavior were derived from plants e.g. tea, opium, coffee, tobacco and cocaine. The categorizing and knowledge of the effects of these and more obscure drugs was passed on through families and religious elders. As such knowledge became formalized, folk medicine developed into formal scientific medicine. There are presently hundreds of psychoactive drugs in existence. These were discovered through reformalisation of centuries old applications, through systematic outgrowth as knowledge of brain-behavior relations extended or by accident.

1730 The Convergence of Text and Context, Real World and Alternative World, in Machiavelli's The Prince and More's Utopia.
This paper will examine the convergence of text and context in the lives and work of Machiavelli and Thomas More. It will be argued that the textual strategies of both works established a dynamic tension between the real world (context) and the alternative world (text). Much of the power and appeal of both works, it will be shown, lies in how they balanced the competing demands of both worlds and narrative forms to represent a new manner of envisioning reality that would capture the imaginations of their age. 5 pgs. 5 f/c. 4b.
