This paper focuses on cell phone technology in Pakistan and the social and economic changes in Pakistan. Pakistan today is less than half its size three decades ago, and this reduction in size is the most important of the many and different changes that occurred in this country. It is more accurate to say that Pakistan is today a very different place from what it was only two generations ago (Zaidi 2002). Some social and economic changes that have occurred in Pakistan are obvious and some are subtle. The strong assertion is that it may have been feudal a century ago, but today, it is certainly not, despite its present social and economic relations of production and exchange (Zaidi). The relationship may also appear to be a variant of feudalism, and that is all. The stubborn assumption on its feudal image owes to the lack, insufficiency and infrequency of objective study, and whatever has been written (that it is not feudal) has not reached the awareness of those who make strong assertions that Pakistan is feudal.

170 Copper Weak on Demand, High on Production.
This paper is an analysis of the global copper industry. It indicates that it is more than likely that prices will increase over the next decade; this is easily seen because certain factors that were apparent in recent years cannot be repeated. Weakening demand in major markets has been the primary reason production cuts have been implemented; copper prices are down globally. In early June of this year, copper prices dropped below $1,600 a ton (72.6 cents per pound) for the first time since July 1999. Average copper prices fell 2.7% and 27.2% from a year ago to US 64.8ˇé/lb. in September. The decline reflected continued demand weakness and comparatively fast production growth. At the end of the third quarter, global copper consumption declined 3.3% while refined copper production rose 4.6%. Low inventory levels, combined with the possibility of mine closures due to high-energy costs, suggest the copper price should increase. (International Copper Information Bulletin) U.S. copper mine production dropped to 3,247 million pounds from last year's all-time high of 4,220 million pounds.

193 The ECSC (European Coal and Steel Community) Today.
Proposed in 1950, the ECSC was created as a way to pool coal and steel resources by providing a unified market for coal and steel products, lifting restrictions on imports and exports, and creating a unified labor market. Annual reports show that European coal production is expected to continue its downward trend in the face of competition from international coal and other energy sources. Founded in the early 1950s, the ECSC was the forerunner of the present European Union. The ECSC treaty is due to run out in the year 2002, and the unions are calling for its renewal. "They are particularly concerned to see its important social provisions maintained" (Columbia Encyclopedia). These center on retraining and other measures to cushion the impact of job losses in the mining and steel sectors. So far, the measures have been financed by a levy on coal and steel production.

200 Erich von Stroheim-A Direction of Passion.
Erich von Stroheim's financial excesses and explosive temperament were condemned by many movie studios, von Stroheim was known for his eccentricities and his life full of excessive misguided energy. He was not only a passionate director, but a writer of many films, and a magnificent actor that took on many difficult roles. Erich von Stroheim - Director, actor, writer, editor, producer and costume designer. One of the true - if controversial - geniuses of the silent screen, he was initially an actor and in 1914 became a prot¨¦g¨¦ of D.W. Griffith. Von Stroheim's financial excesses and explosive temperament were condemned by the Universal (and later other studios). He was sometimes banished from the set, removed from production and saw his films edited to tragic proportions - thus quashing his artistic rebellion under the strict studio policy.

268 Reforestation.
This paper discusses reforestation. Reforestation can certainly be argued over, but almost everyone will concur with one idea: More forests equal a better environment for us all. Only it doesn't stop there; there are too many considerations, too many variables to take into consideration. Thus, we are brought back to the original question: Does the world really need more forests? America's richly, diverse forests provide vital products and amenities to our society. "Through scientific management, sustained production of pulpwood, saw timber, veneer, poles, and chemical by-products is possible from our forests." (Gallegos, 1982) Our nations forests provide important values to us including: quality habitat for wildlife, biodiversity of plant and animal communities, clean water, aesthetic benefits and recreational opportunities.

313 Ford, Mass Production, and the Auto Industry.
This paper discusses Henry Ford, mass production and the auto industry. The Model T put America on wheels, but the real revolution was the production technique developed in 1913. Ford Motor Co.'s moving assembly line, and the rapid spread of its mass-production methods, kicked the industrialization of America into overdrive and profoundly changed the way people work and live worldwide. The debate over whether the introduction of the assembly line was more a blue ribbon day for American industry, or a dark day for the American blue-collar worker, will rage on for years to come. But one thing is certain: Henry Ford's vision changed the way people thought about production, as well as the way things were made and the way people worked.

368 The Works of Gene Kelly.
This paper discusses the works of Gene Kelly. Great actors, actresses, singers and dancers, such as Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Buster Keaton, James Cagney, Frank Sinatra, Gwen Verdon, Ava Gardner, and Howard Keel, just to name a few. But it could be argued that none did more to shape the Hollywood movie musical during the 1940's and '50's than the legendary Gene Kelly. As a dancer, actor, director, choreographer and sometimes singer, Gene Kelly's innovations in dance style, imagery and production values put a fine polish on the art form that took America by storm from the 40's to the 60's, and which lives today on screens both big and small and in the hearts of anyone who has ever watched them. The following pages will serve as an introduction to the life and work of one of Hollywood's legendary performers - Gene Kelly.
