297 The Thin Red Line A Novel by James Jones.
This is a book report of James Jones's "The Thin Red Line." This book is not about men at war as much as it is about war in men. It is about war alright...a war with fear for some, with jealousy for another, a war with death for another, war with faith for yet another. Every one of those C-for-Charlie company has a war...not only with the unseen Japs and their deadly hidden machine guns...but also with themselves. In order to win the war with the outside enemy, they have to win a war with the inside enemy, the humanity in them, and they must lose the war against the animal in them... The story has its share of tactics and warfare...but its main concern is with the men at this war...and the war in these men. To say that this book is outstanding is an understatement.

388 The Deadly Ebola Virus.
This paper discusses how two different stories (In Richard Preston's novel, The Hot Zone and Director Wolfgang Petersen's film, Outbreak) describe the terrifyingly deadly Ebola virus threatens to wipe out humanity. Although the two works share many similarities, I found the most interesting and note-worthy theme to be the compassion and dedication of the men and women of the USAMRIID (United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases). In a plot overview, The Hot Zone, (a true story), and Outbreak, (a dramatization loosely based on The Hot Zone), appear to be different.

409 An Analysis of Red Harvest.
This paper discusses the surrealistic world that Dashiell Hammett creates in his novel, Red Harvest, is a world in which it is difficult to know what or who to believe. It is a world in which the wisest of characters might heed the advice, "Don't believe anything that you hear, and only half of what you see". Throughout Hammett's book runs the fear that nothing can be taken at face value, and nothing is what it appears to be. This fear culminates in a suspicion not only of individual people but also of the social order itself. The streets of Personville can be likened to a stage on which gangsters masquerade as businessmen, capitalists contract with criminals, and no one can tell the difference between them.

424 Alma, Hitch, Niece Charlotte and Uncle Charlie: Are They all One in the Same?
This paper examines the Alfred Hitchcock film Shadow do a Doubt from an artistic, theatrical and personal perspective. It draws a relationship between Hitchcock's personal life and his characterizations. It concludes that Uncle Charlie is Hitchcock and niece Charlotte is Hitchcock's wife Alma. Shadow of a Doubt is a film of doubles and opposites; a paradox of good and evil, and a portrait of Hitchcock's dissatisfaction with the family life in the 1940's Uncle Charlie appears to be the rich uncle and on the surface the Santa Rosa family is average America, but in fact it is hot bed of unrest, sexism, and anger with each family member vying for personal identity and recognition. Considerable evidence in the film indicates that the social and family relationships portrayed in this film may have been a reflection of the relationship between Alma and Alfred Hitchcock.

568 An Analysis of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
The characters "Brick" and "Maggie" in Tennessee William's classic three-act play, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, provide a fascinating study in interpersonal communication and more specifically, attribution theory. They are two people tattered by life, at odds with one another, and yet strangely but permanently attached, one by her fierce will and the fear of being alone, and the other out of utter resignation. The relationship between Brick and Maggie is a complicated one. Attribution Theory provides clues as to how it might be mended. It has been said, "if the foundation is strong, the rest can be fixed". Brick and Maggie show a strong foundation in that they have a long history together, and they have a way of coming together when forces are aligned against them.
