This paper discusses Charles de Secondat, Baron de la Montesquieu. He is vastly honored and credited for his contribution to the democratic structure of the United States of America, so that due partly to his brilliance, America fell into serious civil bloodshed only once in more than 200 years. He advocated constitutionalism civil liberties, the abolition of slavery, moderation and peace, social and economic justice, and the rule of law, the balance of power and social equality. He viewed republic and despotic governments as inversely proportionate, in that in republican governments, men were equal and everything, while in despotic governments, they were equal and nothing. He went up against all forms of extremism and fanaticism and against despotic rule by individuals or groups.

45 The Drama.
This paper is written about drama and Hamlet's Character. William Hazlitt largely comments on the contemporariness and universality of Hamlet's character: that although Shakespeare wrote the play more than 500 years ago, we have come to know the character of the tragic Prince quite well. Not only because we read about him in school, but also - and more - because we know his thoughts as we do our own. (Hazlitt 1900) His sayings and speeches are not only real but are as real as our own thoughts when we ponder and despair over our or others' misfortunes and grief. Each of us becomes Hamlet, in Hazlitt's view, whenever we bear the weight of reflection (Hazlitt), when the sun in us is made dim by "envious mists" in our hearts, whenever the world looks nothing better than a "dull blank", when our love is despised, or when sadness sticks to us and makes our mind sink within.

121 Culture and Health.
This paper discusses the role of culture and health in society. While accommodating the demands of the vastly different culture of American society of which they are now part, Asian and Pacific Islander parents - especially mothers - also struggle to preserve what is culturally inherent to them, in particular, in child-rearing practices (Johnson & De Hertogh). Although there are internal varieties even among these groups (including those from China, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Samoa, Guam, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand), they enforce similar social controls and obedience to rules, a hierarchy of structure, discipline of children and sharing childcare with older siblings (Johnson & De Hertogh). They similarly teach and value perseverance, restraint and patience in their young and preserve close family ties. But they give greater importance to the interests and will of the group more than those of the individual.

197 The English Patient: An Analysis.
This is a book report on The English Patient and its author, Michael Ondaatje. The English Patient plays out largely in the mind of one man, a burn-scarred amnesiac being administered in a World War II-ravaged Italian villa by a Canadian nurse. Count Laszlo de Almasy remembers his days before the war, when he charted the African desert and began a torrid affair with the wife of a colleague. These thoughts are what fills his days and form his memories as he lies bedridden and sick. The inner conflict begins there. He has done wrong and there's nothing he can do about it.

204 Fathers and Sons in Literature.
In literature, fathers were seldom portrayed as real people capable of making major contributions to their children's development. Only when there was paternal absence, neglect, abuse, or other overtly negative dynamics was father's influence likely to be stand out. We will see that Barn Burning is actually the story of an initiation that will lead to the boy's final refusal to help and support his father. By denouncing this one, Sarty will claim his own individuality and will gain his independence and freedom. The opposition of sharecropper (Mr. Snopes) and aristocrat (Mr. de Spain) suggests social implications. Several elements refer to this possibility. The father points out that de Spain's house is built with "nigger sweat" as well as the white sweat of the sharecropper. He seems to view himself as a victim of an unfair socio-economic system: he "burns with a ravening and jealous rage."(P.169), he is the "element of fire", the narrator speaks to "some deep mainspring" of Mr. Snopes being "as the element of steel or powder spoke to other men, as one weapon for the preservation of integrity ...used with discretion."

312 The Life of Henry Morrison Flagler.
This paper discusses the life and work of Henry Morrison Flagler. Henry Morrison Flagler was born in 1830 in Hopewell, New York. At the age of 14 he moved to Bellevue, Ohio, where he would eventually meet and become a partner of John D. Rockefeller in the Standard Oil Company. By the 1870's Standard Oil would make both Flagler and Rockefeller very wealthy men. After all but retiring from the oil business, Flagler made his first visit to Florida in 1878 with his ailing wife, Mary. Mary died in 1881 and two years later Flagler married his second wife, Ida Alice Shrouds. The couple visited St.Augustine, and while Flagler saw the potential of St.Augustine for attracting tourists, he found the hotel and transportation facilities there to be poor. By 1885 Flagler returned to St.Augustine and began construction of the 540 room Hotel Ponce de Leon. In order to ensure proper transportation, Flagler also purchased the Jacksonville, St.Augustine & Halifax Railroad. This was the first of several railroad purchases Flagler was to make.

631 Argentina Financial Crisis.
Argentine president la Rua faced the most powerful general strike against his center-left administration. Argentina's embattled President Fernando de la Rua resigned following street protests. The main reason behind De la Rua resignation is the failure to bring stability, reducing unemployment, curbing down the unequal distribution of wealth, and failure to reduce corruption. It was these measures that set off the rioting that led to De la Rua's resignation. Protesters rallied outsideDe la Rua's presidential palace where riot police on horseback repeatedly pushed them back with batons, water cannons, tear gas and rubber bullets. Hundreds were taken into custody. Reports of the number of dead range anywhere from six to thirty people killed since the riots began.
