The topic of this paper is on the film "Gattaca." The film "Gattaca" is a projection of the eugenics world in the visible future and the fulfillment of genetic engineering, which is the scientific and deliberate manipulation or re-design of human genes for the purpose of producing "superior" individuals. The film visualizes that oncoming era when "today's culture of perfectionist striving" (Ebert 1997) will be the norm: a society, dominated by super beings, who, as test-tube babies, grow to be disease-immune and defect-free, of superior IQ and guaranteed longevity (Ebert). As supreme-quality products of genetic engineering, their physiological, mental and psychological imperfections are pre-empted and stamped out and a perfect DNA structure predetermined, according to their parents' factory specifications.

375 Mythic Themes in Films.
This paper discusses mythic themes. But a film need not feature monsters, robots, supernatural beings or talking animals to be considered a mythic film. In my opinion, there is one type of mythic film that, when well-executed, is more powerful than any mentioned above and that is the film that takes an ordinary and true circumstance and asks, "What if?" Despite what the creators of DC or Marvel Comics might lead us to believe, there is no greater super power than the ability to turn back the clock, to do something differently, to see a dear departed loved one, one more time.

4449 Eyes Wide Shut: Kyoto, Canadian Environmental Policy, and the Technical Lens.
This paper will argue that Kyoto demonstrates the necessity of addressing the issue of global climate change with our eyes focused on realistic solutions that acknowledge the tendency of parties to cheat or avoid ratifying the Kyoto protocol given the size of the economic incentives at stake. Thus, through an analysis of the "lens" approach to environmental policy, it will be argued that the "technological lens" - although not ideal - is the best approach to this problem presently available. 6 pgs.
