129 A Good Life: Newspapering and Other Adventures.
This is a book report on "A Good Life: Newspapering and Other Adventures." A book about a newspaperman who wanted to make a presence in print. "Newsmakers are increasingly liars," the author states from the very beginning, and the CIA make a mess when they "try to make things happen." (Bradlee, 1995) These are strong statements, which seemed to be the thesis and central theme throughout the book. Many people would say the same thing about the press, too. Mr. Bradlee has lots of strong opinions about several different topics, but pay attention because they sometimes change. It is odd that Bradlee never blames the press itself for the growth of the celebrity culture that he laments. But he brags about wanting anyone and everyone to talk about his paper. I enjoyed this book for it's look inside the life of a journalistic, but I believe another book could have done it without all the frills.

314 Hero Worship: The Good News and The Bad.
The focus of this paper is the sports hero in the American Culture. The days of Americans worshipping athletes like "Joltin' Joe" DiMaggio, and "Broadway" Joe Namath appear to be over, right? Well, not quite. Attendance numbers, television ratings and merchandise sales are at an all-time high in the sports industry. Fantasy sports leagues and home video games in which fans can manage or even be their favorite players are wildly popular with fans of all ages. And perhaps the most upsetting indication that hero worship is alive and well, is the fact that increasing numbers of young athletes are bypassing college in order to achieve their dream of playing professional sports. In turn, sports heroes themselves are getting younger and younger. In the following pages, I will discuss these disturbing trends more closely, by tracing their roots, examining the present state of affairs, and predicting the future of the sports hero.

842 Should Rape Victims Names Be Published by the Newspapers.
everyone knows that you were blamed. Would you want the newspapers to "protect" you by not publishing your name? Often rape victims feel they were to blame and having the whole town know would even more make them feel uncomfortable. Should victims be protected? Does this special treatment actually do rape victims a disservice by separating them from other victims of violent crime" (Elliott 1)? This has been a matter of tradition, not law. "Only two states, Florida and South Carolina, srape victims' names and the constitutionality of those statues is uncertain" (Elliott). Do you feel that rape victims should be protected by having their names not mentioned in the newspapers? This topic is a sensitive issue toward the victims, but what rights should they have when it comes to publishing their names in the newspaper?

This paper discusses two issues concerning children and television. This is an opinion paper on television, news, and children. "A group of students begin firing on their peers. Children are being killed while others stand screaming or trying to make a run for it." Your child stands watching the news while tears drips down her cheeks. She asks, "Dad, could that happen at our school?" Perhaps it is not your child, but a sister, niece, or a friend's child, would you want them watching such trauma. What effects could this have on the child? This paper will discuss news, television, and children with the effects that these may have upon a child.

4371 Utopia Fiction: Ideas of Culture and Society in "News from Nowhere" and "Walden Two".
Utopian fiction is a genre of writing that proposes an ideal society. In 1918, Morris' News From Nowhere advanced an ideal society that addressed the social problems of capitalism and industrialism, and re-introduced a value to art as the moral ground of culture. Skinner, in 1946, proposed a utopian community that abandoned history and created a social reality based on "cultural engineering," an idea grounded in Skinner's own radical behaviorism. This paper examines the role of the individual in these two novels, and the place of creativity in these utopian societies. 5 pgs. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
