This paper discusses the medical/radiology screenings available to detect cancer. The trend today is to order cancer screening tests, based on age or on risks factors, but a recent report made by the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center says that these tests may not be the best for seniors or elderly persons (American Medical Association). Age, according to the report, is one of the most important factors to consider in ordering such tests. A patient with other illnesses and has only a life expectancy of five years will not benefit from a breast cancer screen test, for example, because patients do not benefit from screening for at least five years (AMA). They can suffer unnecessarily from discovering early cancer and undergoing surgery or another invasive treatments.

16 Little Women.
This is a book report on Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. It is a biographical account of her family. In the book, her father Amos Bronson is Mr. March and her mother Abigail May is Marmee, while her older sister Anna is Meg and younger sisters Lizzie and May are Beth and Amy, respectively. And Louisa May is the lead character, Josephine or Jo March, the second daughter. The novel, published in 1868-1869, made Alcott a major author of her era. Alcott's portrayal of 19th-century domestic life is outdated, but she will always be remembered for her courageous and realistic expression of the maturing adolescent. Her "Little Women" significantly infused sensitive portrayals of this kind into the ordinary and formal types of juvenile literature offered in her time.

32 Candide - Life Is Worth Living.
Voltaire earned much fame and criticism at the same time for his powerful crusade against injustice and bigotry, expressed in brilliant literature. He went up against the government and the Catholic hierarchy, particularly because of the Grand Inquisition. His character, Candide, was very much patterned after his own personality and experience, but his character begins by believing in goodness as prevailing in the world and ends the same way, despite his (Voltaire's) deadly cynicism. His famous phrase, "the best of possible worlds," has been his landmark, and the question that follows is, "what then are the others?"

35 Evolution Versus Creationism.
This paper gives the viewpoint of evolution versus creationism. Biological evolution or evolutionary biology is genetic change in a population occurring from generation to another (O'Neill 2002). All life forms evolve and continue evolving from earlier species, and these life forms include human beings. Most biological scientists concur that the earliest life forms on earth evolved from chance natural occurrences 3 1/5 to 4 billion years ago. They agree that evidence for evolution comes from fossil records of change, the chemical and structural similarities of related life forms, the recorded genetic changes in living organisms for many generations (O'Neill) and the geographic distribution of these related species. In effect, this Supreme Court ruling could neither prevent public schools from teaching the creation theory nor ban the teaching of the evolution theory. Both subjects are taken off the standard tests of public schools, and the local school board decides what should be taught (youdebate.com).

41 Five Reasons The Death Penalty Should Be Abandoned.
This paper argues five reasons for the death penalty. It is racist. Statistics show that African Americans comprise 12% of the entire US population, yet 43% of those in the death row are Blacks. It is anti-poor. Justice William O. Douglas said that one who can afford good legal representation, he or she will not end up on death row. The death penalty condemns innocent prisoners to death. The death penalty does not deter serious crimes. Governments, which enact the death penalty continue to suffer from high murder rates as those, which have abolished it. Complete miscarriages of justice are unavoidable. Five serious reasons are supported with statistics and facts to argue that the death penalty should be abandoned.

42 WilliamShakespeare.
This paper is a biography of WilliamShakespeare. He may be lauded as the author of popularly admired literature done by any individual in the history of Western civilization. (Grolier 1996) He may be the most influential writer in all of English literature or the most important dramatis and poet of the English Renaissance. (Spark notes) But WilliamShakespeare will still be, to most, the greatest playwright of all time. He was, in fact, a public and critical success (Spark Notes) in the field of theater, particularly as a favorite of both Elizabeth I and James I who reigned in succession (1558- 1603 and 1603-1625, respectively), King James granting Shakespeare's company with the royal status as king's players. For this, Shakespeare was immensely popular and wealthy till his death in 1616, but such popularity cannot compare with that which has survived him today and not just in England, but also throughout the world.

43 Leeches: Bloodsuckers, Life-and-Limb-Savers.
This paper discusses leeches as life-and-limb-savers. Blood clotting is a life-saving body process, but when it endangers life or prevents the resolution of a torn tissue, leeches can come in handy. They have shown their worth as natural blood thinners, painkillers and surgical scavengers with the anticoagulant and anesthetic properties of their saliva. These saliva components hold much promise for the "treatment of cardiological and hematological disorders." Today, the Hirudo Medicinalis species of leech is a reliable last resort when something is needed to overcome the clotting mechanism, something that thins the blood or decongest clots. Using its two suckers to feed and to hang itself, the leech secretes Hirudin, an anti-coagulant and anesthetic, while it sucks blood from the host. When it has sucked enough, it just falls off from the host and leaves blood oozing fresh from its bite wound. Although this may sound horrible sometimes it makes a difference between life and death.
