This paper discusses the writings of Paulo Freire. In the early 1970's, Brazilian educator, Paulo Freire, visited Harvard and published an English translation of his best-known work, Pedagogy of the Oppressed. His general critique of education presented an analysis, which challenged the neutrality of the technological model dominant in American schools. He argued that any curriculum, which ignores racism, sexism, the exploitation of workers, and other forms of oppression at the same time, supports the status quo. It inhibits the expansion of consciousness and blocks creative and liberating social action for change.

634 An Analysis of Kant's Writings.
This paper discusses the Kant and his writings. Often the obscurity of Kant's writings can be found in the terminology that he used. The motivation is in trying to understand what he thinks something is false such as idealism or if he truly believed it. Kant's theory is one of empirical realism that is difficult to understand. Yet, most readers find that Kant challenges an individual to think about what he is reading. Kant believed that transcendental idealism and empirical realism were contradictory so they could not be true. Many of his writing may seem contradictory, but he was able to reply to Hume and involve the reader to think about "idealism," and "realism".

2180 Authority, Appropriation of Voice, and the Writing of Multicultural Literature.
The article "Who Should Write Multicultural Literature" touches upon many of the central issues of this controversy. This paper will demonstrate that there are no easy or absolute answers to these issues. In particular, it will be argued that while a writer's "insider" status within a racial or ethnic group may give her an advantage over a "non-insider", it is not the primary determining factor in assessing qualifications or the quality of a literary work. It will be proposed that the criteria for evaluation of multicultural literature should not be race or skin colour, but rather sensitivity, accuracy, and honesty. 8 pgs. 0 f/c. 0b.

2769 History, Narrative, and Methods of Perspective: Writing the Atlantic Slave Trade.
This paper traces the shifting value systems that have composed the history of the slave trade; this is, therefore, not specifically about the events that occurred during the activity of capitalism and slavery, geographies and cultures. It is about the texts, reading the narratives as methods for writing about history. As such, this paper considers history as a history of its own invention, through the differently constructed narrative accounts that reflect changing social and cultural value systems, and how these have been written in-relation to the activities of the slave trade. 14.5 pgs. 11 f/c. 9b.
