This body is about affirmative action in the workplace today. The purpose of affirmative action is to give our nation a way to finally address the systemic exclusion of individuals of talent, on the basis of their gender or race, from opportunities to develop, perform, achieve and contribute. Affirmative action is an effort to develop a systematic approach to open the doors of education, employment, and business development opportunities to qualified individuals who happen to be members of groups that have experienced long-standing and persistent discrimination. Expanding opportunity for people of color means expanding not only their access to existing jobs, education and housing , but also removing the obstacles that cause them from obtaining their goals. I believe, affirmative action is the best shot they have in order to achieve their dreams.

632 Affirmative action.
Affirmative action works when there is an issue of people's color, race and ethnicity. Affirmative action comes to the rescue of those who were previously excluded from jobs or denied educational opportunities. When these policies received executive branch and judicial support, vast numbers of people of color, white women and men have gained access they would not contrarily have had. This advancement has led to very real alterations. Affirmative action programs have not dislodged racism, nor have they always been readied without issues. The implementation of affirmative action was America's foremost honest endeavor at resolving a problem, it had formerly chosen to overlook. Yet, to really understand the significance of affirmative action, one must look at America's past discrimination to see why, at this point in history, we must become more color conscious.

"The readiness, or developmental status of a child when he or she makes the transition from home to school is the result of a complex web of interactions between the child's genetic endowment and the environment around the child" (School Readiness 1). The development of a child involves dynamic interaction between inherent characteristics of a child and his or her environment. Heredity and environment interact in complex ways that are often difficult to predict. These areas will play a large role on the child at school and later in life.

1698 Insurance Companies' Reactions to President Clinton's Health Care Plan.
This paper will take a detailed look at the 1993 health plan and concentrate on the effects it had on the insurance industry. The prevailing sentiment among insurance companies was that the 1993 was unequivocally 'bad' for their business. After six years of lobbying and the application of economic pressure, insurance companies feel that the 1999 reforms are a step in the right direction after the botch-job launched in 1993. In brief, the paper will show what happened in 1993, how health care changed as a result of the 1993 plan, how insurance companies reacted to the plan, whether or not insurance companies acted rationally (i.e., is there economic support for their negative reaction?), and how the present situation meshes with the insurance companies' recommendations for change. 12 pgs. 21 f/c. 5b.
