This paper is a critique of John White's 'Eros Defiled'. White's book, divided into the sections "Sin, Sex, and You", "Sexual Sins", and "The Church and Sexual Sin", offers extraordinary insights and guidance to Christians interested in navigating the hedonistic seas of contemporary society. Skilled as a counsellor and psychiatrist, White's advice speaks to the core oncerns of those disturbed by society's expectations and their relation to Christian responsibilities. While perhaps 'behind the times' in terms of its attitudes and willingness to discriminate between appropriate and inappropriate sexual behaviour, 'Eros Defiled' defines timeless truths about the role of sexuality in our lives. 4 pgs. 4 f/c. 1b.

This paper will use the "Salt March" of Mahatma Gandhi in 1930 as an example of civil disobedience to be analyzed with respect to the theoretical models outlined in Plato's Crito and King's "Letter from the Birmingham Jail". It will be argued that, while there exist strong arguments against civil disobedience - most notably that it often leads to violence and civil unrest - often such acts are justified, as was Gandhi's, as a means of last resort. 9 pgs. 14 f/c. 5b.

1944 Summary and Critique.
This paper summarizes and critiques the article "Sexism, Racism and Canadian Nationalism." In this paper, Ng reviews analyses of the early formation of the Canadian State, and the ways race, gender and class were incorporated by elite classes and state-based institutions on the basis of perceived white superiority. Whiteness is, historically, a paternalistic relation of domination; thus, the State is constantly setting up structural forces (e.g., immigration policy) that constitute sites of struggle and conflict. It is here, in struggle and conflict, Ng argues, that the relations can be understood as historical processes of production and reproduction. 3 pgs. 0 f/c. 1b.

2296 Dworkin's critique of legal positivism in "Law's Ambitions for Itself?"
This paper will show that Dworkin's critique of legal positivism in "Law's ambitions for itself indeed succeeds even against Hart's account of positivism. However, it succeeds not so much because it removes all doubt about positivism, as it presents a more palatable and acceptable alternative to positivism, particularly with regard to community. It itself fails in other regards. 10 pgs. 15 f/c. 2b.
