129 A Good Life: Newspapering and Other Adventures.
This is a book report on "A Good Life: Newspapering and Other Adventures." A book about a newspaperman who wanted to make a presence in print. "Newsmakers are increasingly liars," the author states from the very beginning, and the CIA make a mess when they "try to make things happen." (Bradlee, 1995) These are strong statements, which seemed to be the thesis and central theme throughout the book. Many people would say the same thing about the press, too. Mr. Bradlee has lots of strong opinions about several different topics, but pay attention because they sometimes change. It is odd that Bradlee never blames the press itself for the growth of the celebrity culture that he laments. But he brags about wanting anyone and everyone to talk about his paper. I enjoyed this book for it's look inside the life of a journalistic, but I believe another book could have done it without all the frills.

167 Field Artillery in the Civil War.
There were two distinct types of artillery units in the Civil War; Heavy (or Foot) Artillery, and Light (or Field) Artillery. This paper will define these units of artillery and their uses in the Civil War. The Civil War is many times referred to as the first "modern" war, one in which the armies were broken into specialized arms. General Henry H. Hunt, a West Point graduate and career artillery officer, had advocated that Artillery should be a separate arm, like Cavalry, for many years prior to the war. In 1858, he was one of three officers chosen to rewrite the Field Artillery Manual, and defined that the service of batteries assigned to brigades of Infantry or Cavalry was subordinate to the operation of the unit, but that the Artillery Reserve was a distinct arm of battle, commanded by it's superior officer, under the immediate orders of the general commanding.

169 Computer Hacking: A Crime of Today's World.
This paper is on computer hacking - a crime of today's world. Computer hacking and the crimes that define this type of criminal, make hacking difficult to define. According to Carter (2002), "Computer hacking always involves some degree of infringement on the privacy of others or damage to computer-based property such as files, web pages or software." Computer hacking can range from the placing of pornographic pictures on a website to cracking a code that puts the security of millions of Americans at risk. Sometimes it involves stolen identities; other times it's just the ripping off of DVD movies and other media. Hackers themselves also come in as many forms as their crimes do. Hackers are the criminals of today's technological world. This paper will attempt to illustrate just what a hacker is, what this criminal does, and how the laws need to become steeper in order to stop these types of computer crimes for causing the damage they do.

177 Davidson and the Existence of Conventional Language.
This paper is written about Donald Davidson and the existence of conventional language. In his essay "A Nice Derangement of Epitaphs," Davidson defends the highly controversial thesis that 'there is not such a thing as a language, not if a language is anything like what many philosophers and linguists have supposed' and that 'we should give up the attempt to illuminate how we communicate by appeal to conventions'. It falls beyond the scope of this paper to evaluate Davidson's arguments for this thesis. Its point will be to defend the plausibility of its conclusion against the widely held view that the rejection of languages is clearly false, or even absurd.

195 Employee Training And Development.
This paper looks at employee training as a means of improving an organization and making it more cost-effective. This paper illustrates and looks at video conferencing and web-based training via the Internet and Intranet systems. This paper will define the pros and the cons of such training. Training and development consist of planned programs designed to improve performance at the individual, group, and/or organizational level. (1) Often, a distinction is drawn between employee training and development. Broadly speaking, training is conceived of as a learning process whereby people improve their current skills and abilities and/or acquire new skills and knowledge to aid in the achievement of organizational goals. In a more narrow sense, training provides employees with specific, identifiable knowledge and skills for use on their present jobs.
