This paper discusses Sister Callista Roy and her history as a nursing model. Her Adaptation Model had spread far and wide by 1981 and she and her colleagues started giving consultations to other schools on it. Many schools adapted it and soon she was a speaker through the Continent and in other countries. Her other ensuing engagements include a two-year postdoctoral program in Neuroscience Nursing at the University of California at San Francisco where she developed the concept of a holistic person. (Office of the Nurse Theorist); teaching at the graduate level at the same University and at Boston College.; co-chairing Knowledge Conferences hosted by the Boston College School of Nursing from 1996 to 1998 and from 2000 to 2001; and progressively expanding and upgrading her Model.

129 A Good Life: Newspapering and Other Adventures.
This is a book report on "A Good Life: Newspapering and Other Adventures." A book about a newspaperman who wanted to make a presence in print. "Newsmakers are increasingly liars," the author states from the very beginning, and the CIA make a mess when they "try to make things happen." (Bradlee, 1995) These are strong statements, which seemed to be the thesis and central theme throughout the book. Many people would say the same thing about the press, too. Mr. Bradlee has lots of strong opinions about several different topics, but pay attention because they sometimes change. It is odd that Bradlee never blames the press itself for the growth of the celebrity culture that he laments. But he brags about wanting anyone and everyone to talk about his paper. I enjoyed this book for it's look inside the life of a journalistic, but I believe another book could have done it without all the frills.

177 Davidson and the Existence of Conventional Language.
This paper is written about Donald Davidson and the existence of conventional language. In his essay "A Nice Derangement of Epitaphs," Davidson defends the highly controversial thesis that 'there is not such a thing as a language, not if a language is anything like what many philosophers and linguists have supposed' and that 'we should give up the attempt to illuminate how we communicate by appeal to conventions'. It falls beyond the scope of this paper to evaluate Davidson's arguments for this thesis. Its point will be to defend the plausibility of its conclusion against the widely held view that the rejection of languages is clearly false, or even absurd.

230 Malnutrition And The Elderly.
This paper discusses the problems of malnutrition and the elderly. In the elderly population, it is estimated that up to 59% of nursing home residents, 65% of hospitalized patients, and 5%-22% of those living within community settings suffer from malnutrition. (Williams, 1993). Often considered an issue affecting the homeless or third world populations, malnutrition has not been fully recognized as a serious problem affecting many of the United States' elderly. When we acknowledge that the elderly this paper examines several components of the problem. After summarizing literature reviewed, risk factors, signs and symptoms, and the health implications of malnutrition are identified. Next, problem solving strategies, from nutritional status assessment and determining causes to nutritional therapy and education are explored. Then, methods of evaluating outcomes are suggested. Nursing implications and a brief discussion follow.

245 Orem's Self-Care Model: A Professional Nursing Practice Model.
This paper discusses Orem's Self-Care Model. Nursing theory is an organized and systematic articulation of a set of statements related to questions in the discipline of nursing. (Caley, p. 302, 1980) The model presented by Dorothea Orem is based on the idea that as human beings, we are engaged in self-care activities that allow us to maintain a state of good health. Orem defines health as "a state of a person that is characterized by soundness or wholeness of developed human structures and of bodily and mental functioning" (Coleman, p. 325, 1980) Utilization of Orem's concepts allows the nurse freedom to develop their own style practice to best meet the self-care needs of any patient.

290 Team Approach.
This paper discusses the team approach to outpatient geriatric evaluation and care. Critique of article titled "How Does the Team Approach to Outpatient Geriatric Evaluation Compare with Traditional Care: A Report of a Randomized Controlled Trial" by Williams et al. This critique uses an outline of criteria as summarized in Nursing Research: Theory and Practice, edited by Woods and Catanzaro in 1988. A review of literature has been added to these criteria. This research report describes a randomized controlled trial evaluating team approach vs. traditional care in the aging population. Based on several hypotheses, functional status, home environment maintenance, institutionalization, satisfaction, and health care costs are specifically analyzed to determine the effectiveness of a team approach.

329 An Analysis of Into the Woods.
This paper discusses the fairy tale musical, "Into the Woods." One of the many brilliant Sondheim lyrics in Into the Woods sums up this thesis better than I ever could. In the show's Finale, the Company sings, "Careful the wish you make, Wishes are children. Careful the path they take - Wishes come true, Not free" (136). What we wish for isn't always necessarily what we really want, but sometimes it takes a wish coming true to come to that realization.
