This paper discusses the Aegean Bronze Age. Anthropologists and archaeologists call certain societies "iron age" or "bronze age." In doing this they recognize that the properties of the main metal used by a society's technology greatly affect both its use and through this the nature of that society. For instance, bronze unlike iron is too soft to be used for ploughing; it is an alloy. Bronze can be smelted at lower temperatures than iron, which need specialized supplies of charcoal. All these facts affect societies, which use bronze and iron. For example, since bronze cannot be used for ploughing these societies cannot produce in many regions the large agriculture surplus iron societies can; since bronze requires tin bronze age societies had to trade, etc. (Claiborne, 1974) I believe the same parallel exists between the different characteristics of different writing systems and its use as a communication technology in a society.

296.270 Religious Conversion in the Greco-Roman World.
This paper discusses religious conversion in the Greco-Roman world. Augustine argued that the pagan fables and theatrical performances corrupted the virtues of the early Romans, and in his view those gods did not teach good laws nor the right moral code. As Rome's morals declined, it increased its craving for world power and the enjoyment of obscene ceremonies. Augustine believed that the pagan gods were unclean and lying spirits. He compared a wealthy person with one of moderate means. The rich person suffers from excessive fear and worries because of feverish greed, while the modest person is content and has good relations, is self-restrained, morally chaste, and at peace.

297.249 Palestrina and the Counter-Reformation.
This paper is written on the greatest composer of all times - Palestrina. Palestrina, thought by many to be the greatest composer of all time, was born in Palestrina in 1514 or 1515 according to Baini, Riemann, and others. According to Haberi, he died in February 2, 1594 in Rome, though his early history is virtually unknown. A manuscript in the Vatican relates that a young Palestrina sang in the streets of Rome while offering for sale the products of his parent's farm. On such occasion, he was heard by the choirmaster of Santa Maria Maggiore, who was impressed with the boy's beautiful voice. He pronounced his musical talent and educated him musically. He was a pupil of Mallapert and Firmin Lebel at St. Maria Maggiore, Rome, where he was a choirboy from at least 1544. In 1547, he married Lucrezia Gloria; they had three children.

299.608 The Fall of the Roman Empire.
This paper discusses the topic of the fall of the Roman Empire. It is one of the most widely contested issues in ancient history. Scholars from all over the world, ranging from the reasonable to the absurd, have presented almost every possible viewpoint, at one time or another. Some will argue that understanding the fall of Rome is the key to the survival of our own great nation, the United States. For much of this century, the U.S. has been compared to the Roman Empire in just about every conceivable way. There are those who say that we are following the same path to destruction as the ancient Romans. In order to avoid that fate, we must try to understand what caused the fall of the Roman Empire. Some of the most commonly adhered to theories for the fall are the collapse of the Roman economy, the gradual transformation of Roman society, and the decline of its military. I tend to agree with the idea that it was the decline of Rome's once mighty military that led to its demise.
